In my journey of discovery, I continue to move to a freer style with less concern about realism. Increasingly, my work is a study in colour. While I have explored various forms of artistic expression including collage and oils, my work now is primarily contemporary or abstract in acrylics and mixed media, with some work in watercolour. My process has evolved with time and experimentation, enriched through classes with various instructors, interaction with other artists and participation in painting groups and shows. I experiment with various techniques, mediums and styles, and augment my favourite brushes with brush-less tools including palette knives and sponges, as I strive to define and express the artist within through colour, texture and feeling. Respecting my audience, I am also committed to the use of quality materials that will stand the test of time. Though I enjoy challenging my own assumptions and pushing the boundaries of my skill and technique, my fundamental purpose is not to challenge but, rather, to give pleasure to those who view my work. It gives me great joy when, through the process, I am able to connect with those who experience my creations! The connection completes the circle! |
